What automation actually removes from your day

People assume automation is about speed. For me, it’s about reducing the number of small decisions I have to make before I even start real work.
Every automated step — an email that sends itself, a report that builds itself, a lead that gets tagged without me touching it — is one less decision competing for attention. Decision fatigue is real, and for a brain that already spends energy on things most people do automatically, every decision removed is energy saved for something that matters.
I didn’t automate everything at once. I started with the task I dreaded most, automated that one thing, and let the relief tell me where to look next.
